"A unique, compassionate and empathetic service. Always great to use an independent business. Even better when they smash it. Would highly recommend and certainly use again."

Carpal tunnel symptoms occur when the median nerve gets compressed due to increased pressure in the carpal tunnel. The cause for this is unknown in most cases (idiopathic) or due to predisposing factors such as diabetes, pregnancy, hormonal issues, inflammatory arthritis, medication.

The operation is performed under local anaesthetic which means you are a awake during the procedure and lying in a comfortable position.
The surgery releases a band called the flexor retinaculum which decompresses the carpal tunnel and relieves the pressure on the median nerve. Simple interrupted sutures are used to close the small vertical incision at the base of the palm and removed in 10 days.
In the first week, most patients will experience swelling and discomfort, which can be managed with simple painkillers and by keeping the hand elevated when not in use.
Depending on the patient, recovery times can vary from 4 to 6 weeks and it can take up to 12 weeks to regain full power.
Lighter duties, such as office jobs, can be returned to work as early as 1 week after the procedure. It can take 2 to 3 weeks before you're ready to return to manual labour and heavy lifting jobs.
